Mindful May Challenge #1

We want to give the mind a job as we begin to gently slow ourselves down. Coming into the present moment with the mind in observation mode allows us to step into third person style viewing.

A neat little trick of self-awareness.

Let’s start!

Have some pen and paper ready

  1. Find a time that suits you morning, day or night. Get into a comfortable position that you can stay in for a couple of minutes
  2. Close your eyes and bring your attention to your breath
    1. Breathe in gently to the count of FIVE
    2. Softly hold your breath for the count of FIVE
    3. Release slowly your breath for the count of FIVE
  3. Repeat this cycle of breathing x EIGHT
  4. When you finish, write down what you notice about yourself e.g. heart rate, tightness in the body, softness, relaxed, frustrated, relieved, thoughts, feelings, sensations etc

You have just finished 2 minutes of being mindful in your day.

Life’s Sliding Doors

Sometimes a ‘Sliding Door’ moment can happen without you realising. A chance or an opportunity that can completely change the direction your life was moving towards. On occasion, if you happen to be in the moment and aware of what’s happening around, you get to choose that ‘Sliding Door’ and magic can happen.

For myself, those sliding door experiences can occur in times of complete awareness and be a conscious choice. These chances and opportunities can become more streamlined with just a bit of work on our side. What we think, what we feel and how we act are telltale signs of what we are attracting into our lives. It creates synchronicity, the law of attraction.

Having an internal structure within ourselves is what gives us the strength and at times blind faith to keep going. This internal process is also an indication of how we relate to our self first and then with others.

The simplest method I use is to reassess my values each year.

As we grow, we change. As we change, our values will change also. Values can simply be explained as core needs and wants that are not being fulfilled or met within us. Or you may want to build and strengthen this quality within you.

Recognising the values that you choose and resonate with, allows you to keep a steady ground. When we become anxious or easily overwhelmed, knowing your values can stop confusion. It’s our internal navigator that guides us during our challenging periods just like a boat with a compass.

In a previous blog, I explained a simple method on how to work out your top 6 values and why it’s a game changer.

1. The first step is working out your values and then refining them to your top six values.

2. The second step is placing them in priority from one – six.

You can read my previous blog on how to get your top six values here

Once you have your top six values in priority, give yourself a ‘high five’ as it’s no mean feat the first time you do this exercise. Take a breath and slowly (and I mean slowly) read your values one at a time. Then let yourself sit with them. You may even what to play around with them again.

Now we’re onto the third step. This is where it gets meaty for me and I love this next step.

3. Write down what each value means to you. Your definition is always focused with a relationship towards yourself. This is an internal connection, one that you can easy connect to by yourself, without anyone else’s influence or actions required. By creating your own definition, you place your stamp on it.

Again, take your time reading each value with their meaning and observe how you feel, your thoughts and any sensations in the body. This method allows you to connect and take ownership of your values. How you define each value, is what breathes life into them.

4. The fourth and final step is how you can action this value daily. The trick is to make it as simple as possible. It’s not about overloading our system or tasks in a day. It’s connecting what actions we do already with a value and their meaning. This way we are constantly reaffirming a value through a daily action.

5. Everyday for a month, find a spot and sit mindfully for three to five minutes a day and read your values, definitions and actions. We’re creating new habits and beliefs so keep on it and then read them every now and then.

For example, take the value ‘trust’ and give it a definition for ownership and with a daily action that connects you to your value.

Value               TRUST
Definition       I believe in me
Action             Every time I look up at the sky and pause, I believe in me

Here are my top six values for 2017!

1. COMMUNICATION
D Acknowledging my thoughts, feelings & sensations
A Every time I check in with me

2. CONNECTION
D A heart &/or soul frequency
A Every time I place my hand on my heart

3. RESPECT
D Being mindful
A Every time I breathe in and out

4. INTEGRITY
D Following through on my values with my actions, words & thoughts
A Every time I read my values

5. INTERDEPENDANCE
D I am
A Every time I say ‘I am’ with hands on my hips – Wonder Woman pose

6. GROWTH
D Taking a step outside my comfort zone
A Whenever I walk

Being aware of your values gives your conscious and unconscious mind a direction to move towards together. So those ‘Sliding Door’ moments can become more frequent. And as for magic, well that’s simply stepping into the rhythm of your life and choosing which opportunities work for you.

Do you Reiki your FOOD?

As we all know, Reiki has the beautiful ability to increase vitality, increase the life force of whatever it comes into contact with. Whether it be petrol for our car, a healing for a person or animal to just clearing and balancing the water we drink. There are so many ways to incorporate Reiki into our daily lives that the for me, it’s about how creative I can get with Reiki.

So how can Reiki change our food vibration?

We all need food to survive and for a lot of us, we’re short on time so fast food and packaged food can be staples in our diet. Choosing to Reiki our food can bring freshness and vitality back into our food, allowing for nutrients to return to their optimum levels. I infuse Reiki into my cooking all the time and it’s turned into a habit and quite a successful habit at that. Not only do I Reiki my food but I get a burst whilst of it for me while cooking!

The food always has this lightness to it in aroma, flavour, in texture and sensation (similar to how water tastes different once Reiki ed). When I share my meals with others (I’ve cooked), there is always a softness in conversation throughout the meal. As we digest our meal with a Reiki vibration, it also impacts on our own vibration. It mingles till these two vibrations integrate. Just imagine how healing and nurturing it is for our digestive system, for our organs and for our general well being. Don’t get me started on how it aids a blissful sleep either.

Last week my mum had eye surgery and stayed with me whilst she was recovering. Every meal was infused with Reiki for a speedy recovery and healing. I do have a neat little trick that I do for special folks that are feeling vulnerable or just unwell. I not only infuse Reiki into the meal but I also add love, joy and belonging into the vibration. So as you can imagine, my momma was up and about, bossing me around in no time again :D.

So next time you cook a meal or snack for yourself or friends, take a moment to Reiki your food prepping, cooking and presenting. It only takes a couple of moments to Reiki OR if you’re Reiki II level, place the symbols in our food and let magic happen!

Love to hear how Reiki has changed your lives AND if you’ve become known as a fab cook!

Animal Healing Reiki for Family and Friends

There’s nothing worse than knowing your pet is unwell and not understanding what’s wrong OR what to do. We’re so in tune with our animals that we can sense, when they’re not feeling well but what are our options after that?

Animal Reiki is such a beautiful way to connect with your pet when they’re feeling unwell. Animals respond instantly to the energy that is around them from all family members AND within the home. Just like us, animals can get stressed and need some reassurance of what’s going on within the family dynamics.

They don’t always understand the story or reasoning behind it but they certainly feel what’s happening in their home. Animals love that deep connection we have with them and once that connection is solid, they know they’re part of the family.

Introducing Reiki into the home and family instantly changes the energy and dynamics in the home. A new energy enters once attuned and stays with that person for life. Your animal will sense the difference in you, especially as you integrate this energy for yourself.

Reiki allows for an even deeper connection without trying to converse with them. I like to say it’s similar to hanging out with your best friend in silence; and both of you are so completely relaxed and comfortable in each other’s space whilst silent. This is exactly the same with animals however with more profound results.

Reiki allows you to connect with their energy. Through the Reiki vibration, we give them a healing, a boost of energy and help them shift back into their balanced state. Reiki allows a calming and supportive energy to flow through and has the ability to create homeostasis within the body. Moving our animal’s energy in this direction. It can assist with many illnesses and conditions e.g. bladder infection, upset tummy, diarrhoea, inflammation, arthritis, heart murmurs and the list goes on.

More and more veterinarians are becoming aware of alternative methods and especially Reiki that give benefits and supports an animal during this time. Some vets even offer Reiki as a service as part of their practice.

Anyone can be attuned to Reiki I for family and friends. If you are interested in being able to support your pet’s health, Reiki I is a wonderful foundation to begin with. So instead of not knowing where to begin, even if they’re having an off day, Reiki can create a deeper knowing and understanding of just how your pet is feeling.

I would like to NOTE: under no circumstances does Animal Reiki or Communication take the place or goes against any medical services. A Vet is the only qualified person to diagnose and offer treatment advice for your pet. Reiki supports your decisions and keeps your animal’s energy state strong and supported.

Cleansing the Energy in your Home

Most of the time cleaning your home can change the energy, however if you’ve had a stressful time or even if life has been hectic, that heavy feeling can linger.

Have you ever walked into a person’s home and felt edgy? They may have had a disagreement with someone recently and the energy hasn’t been able to leave the home as yet. It can feel uncomfortable being the visitor and the person living there might not ever realise it’s making them edgy also.

Feelings of sadness, loss and grief can also leave an impression for all entering the home. This is what I’m referring to as cleansing the energy in your home. I liken it to letting your clothes dry in the sunshine, they feel warm and smell fresh. When you put these clothes on, the energy of them transfer across and mingles with your own energy.

To cleanse the energy in your home, is like grounding your home. Aligning the energy so that calmness can enter and increase clarity and harmony in the home.

There are many ways to clear the energy of your home and I will share with you two methods that I use to completely shift your home’s feeling.

  1. Meditation
    1. Get yourself into a comfortable position and focus on your breathing. Slow, deep breaths so that your attention starts to come inwards.
    2. Imagine the layout of your home and go through each room spreading ‘white light’. Sometimes I like to roll it out like a mist or fog.
    3. Take your time with each room and once you’ve finished every room, let the mist float all around yourself cleansing your own energy state.
    4. You can take it a step further if you wish or stop here if you like.
    5. The next step is to imagine spreading a colour you have chosen for each room. E.g. the living room you may choose orange, the bedroom can be pink or green, the kitchen can be yellow and the bathroom perhaps blue.
    6. Once you have finished, sit quietly for a few more minutes and let yourself connect with your home’s new energy.
    7. I would recommend doing this meditation weekly for yourself and home.
  1. White or Lavender Sage Smudging
    1. You can purchase this from any health food store.
    2. Have a bowl ready to catch any embers from your sage stick. Light it up and when the sage stick flame is on fire, blow out the flame, as it’s the smoke that creates the ritual for smudging.
    3. Have all doors and windows closed for the duration of smudging.
    4. Have an intention (similar to a prayer, a mantra) e.g. I cleanse all stagnate and old energy from this room.
    5. Proceed with your smudge stick and bowl to every corner of each room and let the smoke float throughout the room saying your intention (out loud or in your mind).
    6. When you have completed each room, then allow yourself to be smudged. Let the smoke waft over you from your feet all the way up to your head. It’s as if you wash yourself in smoke.
    7. Put the smudge stick out either with water or a bowl with sand in it.
    8. After 10 minutes, you can open all doors and windows to air your home out and ENJOY.
    9. I usually smudge my home every week and if I’ve had a particularly intense day.

So instead of letting all that dense energy stay in your home, you can cleanse the ambiance at a moment’s notice . From heaviness to calmness with a simple ritual of a Meditation or Smudging, inviting new revitalised energy into your home.

Why knowing our values is a #GameChanger

Why knowing our values is a #GameChanger

Have you ever thought about what guides you through life? What helps you to make decisions and take action? Now imagine going through life with a compass to guide you through uncertain terrain!

Many of us will cruise through life, figuring out what we want to have, what we want to achieve and who we want in our lives. Some of us will do this consciously whilst others, it’s more a gut feeling or perhaps life just moved in that way (more of an unconscious manner).

So what have VALUES got to do with this?

Values are the foundation of who and what we represent as person. Knowing what your values are, gives you an insight to who YOU are. Understanding our values will show us what our needs are and how we can meet them for our self.

However, if you’re not aware of your own set of values, then it’s like you’re flying solo in the middle of the amazon – without a map. Our values are like our own internal compass. When we get lost or go through a challenging time, it’s our values that keep us aligned. It’s our values that allow each part of ourselves to work together emotionally, physically and mentally. Even though, your motivation may be flat or you can’t figure out which direction to move into next – all parts of yourself are on the same page.

Now that’s how our values work as a compass.

A simple method to work out your top 6 values:

  1. Write down a whole bunch of values that are important to you                                                                                                                 e.g. communication, love, respect, growth, friendship, certainty – up to 20 maximum
  2. Circle 10 values that you really like
  3. Take the bottom 4 out and you are left with 6 values now
  4. Place your 6 values in order from 1 – 6
  5. Write them out on your wardrobe or bathroom mirror and read them everyday

By reading your values daily, you become more and more familiar with what’s important to you in life. All parts of  your life, with your family, friends, colleagues and career. Making decisions becomes easier when you have alignment between your physical, mental and emotional aspects of yourself.

Our personal values set the benchmark of who we are. Instead of compromising on who and want you want out of life, you step into knowing and understanding what drives and fulfils you. Understanding that our values represent our own internal compass, well now that’s a game changer!

15 things every mum needs to know about Meditation

15 things every mum needs to know about Meditation

Mums of today are like Wonder Woman, with their superhero ability to multi-task, juggle multiple roles as driver, teacher, personal chef, mediator, executive assistant, fixer and knower of all things (just to name a few). So in amongst the chaos of daily life, experiencing each moment, and taking time out to smell the roses isn’t always top of the to-do list, which is when we can miss out on some of the joys of motherhood.

What if you could add a new super power to your toolbox and all you needed was 5 minutes a day to start?

Below are just some of the best benefits of regular meditation for the busy mum.

  1. Finding your groove

Hustle and bustle means we’re always thinking and planning ahead. Simply put, we’re not enjoying being in the present. Finding your own rhythm where your body, your emotions and your mind are all in support of each other is something we take for granted.

  1. Tick Tock

You begin to become aware of each moment, what your thinking, what you’re feeling and with this, you’re able to pause and experience what is occurring within and around you. This is how we slow down our perception of time. What mum wouldn’t want to have extra time in their day?

  1. Heart to Heart love

Regular meditation can help you begin to empathise with your child, understanding their world with a lighter heart. Connecting to your child in the moment is one of the most beautiful experiences, especially when you feel and connect from the heart.

  1. Children are our mirrors of life

Children regardless of age respond to their parent’s energy states. Whether you’re in your head or riding your emotions, the more centred you become, the more you influence your child into this grounding state. A little bit of calmness on the home front can go along way.

  1. Awareness levels increase

If you have a toddler, you need eyes in the front and the back of your head. When you meditate regularly, your peripheral vision and sixth sense increases and you’re able to sense your little one in whole different way.

  1. Less outbursts

By lowering your cortisol and adrenalin levels, you make it more difficult to ride that emotional rollercoaster. The ups and downs lessen and you find your own even keel. Calm and steady days ahead.

  1. You are the FUN mum

Having more energy for you, your family and friends means you’re a joy to be around. Fun seems to follow you!

  1. Taking care of mummy

Meditation is one of the most nurturing ways to take care of you. It has a ripple effect into every aspect of your life and all those you interact with in a positive manner.

  1. Healthier and stronger you

Meditation helps boost your immune system and strengthen your heart. A strong immune system is just as infectious energetically as a belly laugh and we all know how good a laugh is for our immune system!

  1. Less blues

Being more grounded in your body stops that pattern of highs and lows. Having a high is great, however impossible to maintain and there is only one-way down. Finding your centre, your own rhythm gives you, your own internal barometer of how to measure yourself emotionally and mentally daily.

  1. Watch out kids

You’re even quicker thinking on your feet. So watch out kids, pulling one over mum’s eyes is almost as easy as walking on water.

  1. Parent time

Instead of collapsing after the kids go to bed, you’re energy levels are now more consistent. You have time to connect with your partner/friends; Time for being a grown up and not just a mum.

  1. Kids start to listen

Being a mum and getting your message across is no mean feat. So just imagine, you’ve found your own rhythm, you’ve slowed down time and your grounded. Everyone will be calmer around you and hear what you’re saying (be prepared, they still may not agree but that’s what being a mum is about)

  1. Sleep means Sleep

You actually get to recharge deeply during your sleep time instead of collapsing into bed exhausted, playing catch up.

  1. True to who you are

You set the foundation of values in your family by being the example that they all can experience. Learning by example is the greatest gift to share with your children, as we all know ‘do as I say and not as I do’ never really works.

So to start off with, all you need is up to 5 minutes a day of connecting with your breath. You can do this anywhere, in the shower, lying in bed or even sitting in car (make sure you’ve pulled over first). Mindfulness is just a focused state of awareness that you can do anywhere, anytime. So instead of being Wonder Woman, you’re now Super Woman (you can fly without that invisible plane) and meditation is your secret weapon.

Joint Custody…What happens when it’s over?

Who gets the pet?
As some of you may know, I’ve had joint custody of Nero with his dad now for 2 years. Initially there was an adjustment for all of us but once the routine was set, it was all roses. Nero had two homes and twice the individual attention. You could say he had the best of both worlds or did he really?

Usually Nero had about two weeks at one home and then the other. Everything was smooth sailing. He had made new friends at my place and one has turned out to be his girlfriend. Sophie is a pretty little thing and very precocious (I might add slightly high maintenance but that’s no reflection on Nero’s conditioning – meaning me! Lol). His other friend is a very cool dude, a cat named Vinnie. He often goes to Vinnie’s home to play and hang out. Nero tells me that Vinnie’s mummy sometimes feeds him too, I thought he had put on a bit of weight. However Vinnie is not yet allowed into our home, Nero’s choice!

At Nero’s dad’s place, his backyard is adjacent to a golf course and the cliffs. He can roam around like crazy with his kitty kat gang (and boy is there a gang there), this was his first home since we had him.

So the last time I went to pick up Nero, he ran away from me – first time EVER! I was shocked and asked him what was wrong? Nero then proceeded to tell me that he only wanted one home now as he finds it very unsettling. So I asked which place he considers home – it was his first home, much to my dismay.

He still refused to come to me so I went to a nearby coffee shop and talked to him about options. Nero made a point of telling me that he loved both of us but again said he wanted one home. I told him I would talk to his dad and let him know and see how he feels about the situation. I also made a request to him. I asked if would he please come with me now, as it may be our last time together. He agreed. With a heavy heart I went to pick up my favourite black cat in the world.

Back at my place, he slipped into the normal routine there and played with his friends. It took me a week to be brave enough to contact his dad and fill him in on Nero’s request. As Nero’s dad reflected on the situation, he mentioned that Nero had been unsettled at his place too. He said it might be due to his work schedule. Travelling a lot and working late nights and that it may not be ideal for him to have Nero full time. So what suited us as furry parents, wasn’t suiting Nero.

A decision was made and he was come and live with me full time. In event of holidays, his dad was open to having him. All I had to do now was convince Nero that this was the best solution to his request. So after a week of expressing all the positives about living with his mum and having full time access to his girlfriend Sophie and his mate Vinnie, Nero was nearly back to himself. Strutting around the hood and slinking his way back into Sophie’s good books (she never liked the way he would leave and in her mind neglect her – I told you, ‘high maintenance!’).

It was such an emotional roller coaster to say goodbye to my furry little guy and follow through on his request. Then, for everything to turn around and have him live with me full time all within a week. However for me, it was a profound experience in how to let go.

Not all experiences work out in this manner – I would love to hear how you would handle similar circumstances.
